Cillamayor, Palencia
Church of Santa María la Real
The baptismal font of Cillamayor spent a half of a century in a private collection, having been sold in the 1960s, before being returned to the church of Santa María la Real in the fall of 2013. The twelfth century font is sculpted with a much more abstract design than the others on this site, showing a single human figure beside an ornate interlace motif. It has been suggested that the figure represents the sculptor, Pedro, who has inscribed his name to the right of the design ["PEDRO DE CILLA ME FIZO"].
